Globally Popular Cereal Is 80 Years Young

Read the official Kellogg press release about Rice Krispies' 80th birthday

Upon its introduction in 1928, our Rice Krispies cereal quickly became a family favorite, delighting millions of Americans with its simple and delicious taste.

After Rice Krispies entered the market, everyone quickly noticed the unique noise the toasted rice cereal made in milk. Eighty years after its introduction, the distinctive sound of Rice Krispies continues to delight parents and children alike as they gather around the breakfast table.

"Rice Krispies has been delivering magical moments to breakfast tables for 80 years, and we're looking forward to continuing our tradition of bringing these special moments to families for generations to come," says Karl Miller, brand manager, Rice Krispies, U.S. Morning Foods.

In continuing this tradition, the Rice Krispies brand in the U.S. recently partnered with Playing for Keeps, a national nonprofit organization devoted to promoting parent-child connections through play, to create Rice Krispies Operation Spark. Operation Spark is an educational initiative devoted to providing parents with simple ways to meaningfully connect with their kids.

"Today, parents are sharing the same cereal they enjoyed as a child with their own families," Karl continues. "Our brand is committed to helping spark a connection between parents and kids whether at the breakfast table over a bowl of Rice Krispies or during other parts of their daily routine."

Over the past 80 years, the Rice Krispies brand has grown into a breakfast staple worldwide and is sold more than 20 countries around the world. In 2007 alone, global sales topped $675 million, including both Rice Krispies cereal and Rice Krispies Treats squares.
