His paintings were featured on the set of the television show "Friends." He has created artwork for the Oscars, Olympics and Major League Baseball. Now, he's partnering with the Kellogg to bring his artistic creations to packages of Pop-Tarts.
Renowned pop artist Burton Morris presented five special-edition Pop-Tarts boxes featuring his artwork during a visit to Battle Creek on June 16. He unveiled sketches of an original Pop-Tarts-inspired painting he plans to present to our company later this summer. He also took time to meet with employees and sign autographs on collectable tins he designed especially for Pop-Tarts.
"Pop-Tarts are a simple, creative and fun food that have been enjoyed by families for more than 40 years," says Etienne Patout, Senior Director, Pop-Tarts. "We want to remind families that Pop-Tarts were made for fun. We're thrilled to partner with Burton Morris for our Pop-Tarts Pop Art promotion to inspire families to have fun and be creative."
Putting the art in Pop-Tarts
In addition to his one-of-a-kind Pop-Tarts boxes, which will hit store shelves later this summer, Morris has designed a collectible Pop-Tarts tin and three T-shirt designs.
In the coming weeks, families will also be able to use Burton's art as inspiration to create their own T-shirt design and enter it into a Pop-Tarts Pop Art contest on the brand's website.
"Part of what's so fun about art is looking at everyday objects in new and different ways," Etienne says. "Just as Burton's style of art infuses optimism, energy and fun into common objects – like Pop-Tarts – families can use everyday objects as inspiration for their own works of art."
The design that receives the most votes each week will receive a Burton Morris print. One grand prize winner, chosen by Burton, will even win a day with the artist himself (of course, employees and their immediate families aren't eligible).
A perfect Pop-Tarts partner
Pop art is a visual art movement that emerged in the United States during the late 1950s. This art form removes the material from its context and isolates the object, or combines it with other objects, for contemplation. Pop art is characterized by themes drawn from popular mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and other cultural objects.
Although his roots are in fine art, Burton has developed a unique style that puts a delightful spin on everyday objects and motifs. His artwork has been selected for many prestigious events through the years and has also raised millions of dollars for countless charities worldwide. |
