Online resource providing moms with expert tips for fun, nutritious snacking

Snacktivate's launch was supported by a public relations campaign that reached millions of consumers. In fact, it earned rave reviews from many mothers in the blogosphere. Here's a sampling of what they had to say:

"The best part about the site is that there are Snacktivate ideas for just about every season and many different occasions."
"Snacktivate doesn't just have fun summertime snack ideas. They have ideas for all year round, include a skiing snowman. How fun!"
"All of their ideas are great because they are all recipes kids can help with, and my kids are definitely more apt to try something new if they created it themselves."
"It's all about planning and picking the right snacks for your kids. Then the idea is to get your kids moving so that they get exercise everyday."
"The best thing about this web site is that it is easy to read, learn and understand. There are recipes for all ages, sizes and tastes. I think you'll find something you like over there!"

Kellogg's nutrition experts recently teamed up with two experts in raising healthy families to develop an online resource that's helping mothers teach smart snacking habits to their kids.

Now a key feature of our KelloggsNutrition.com website, Snacktivate has proven popular with moms looking for information, recipes and tips to ensure that their children's between-meal snacks are nutritious.

"Snacking can help kids recharge and provide important nutrients for healthy growth," says Jennifer Garrett, Director, U.S. Nutrition Marketing. "However, snacks should not be viewed as treats or extras. It's important to be aware of what children are eating between meals and factor it into their daily intake of fat, calories and essential nutrients."

Recent research shows that a quarter of the average child's daily calories come from snacks, Jennifer notes. Snacktivate gives moms tools to turn their kitchens into a learning laboratory that encourages kids to snack on nutritious foods – setting the foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating.

To develop Snacktivate, our Nutrition Marketing team worked closely with nutritionists Deb Geigis Berry, a mother of two and leading expert on family life, and Rachel Brandeis, also a mother of two as well as a registered dietitian with the American Dietetic Association. Together, they conceived a wealth of fun, new ways to add nutritious foods to kids' diets.

Many of the tips and activities encourage parents and children to prepare meals and snacks together - another great way to enjoy invaluable time as a family. Plus, simple kitchen chores have been shown to help young kids develop their hand/eye coordination and learn shapes, colors, smells and tastes.

Of course, a variety of Kellogg products are suggested for use in each of the snack recipes.

"Snacktivate was designed to support the business," notes Cheryl Dolven, Senior Business Partner, Nutrition Marketing. "The program helps take cereal 'beyond the bowl,' leveraging the power of recipes and encouraging cross-category purchases, which our customers love."

KelloggNutrition.com provides consumers, educators, healthcare professionals and other users a great abundance of easy-to-understand information. It also offers practical tips on diet and nutrition to help users make healthy food choices for themselves and their families, while promoting an active lifestyle as part of everyday healthy living.

Snacktivate is targeted to parents, who as the site points out know better than anyone that their children's daily routines are punctuated by snacks - most often soda, sweets and salty snacks such as potato chips. Snacktivate helps parents "turn snack time into an opportune time for good nutrition."
