Cookie brand popular in West returns following Kellogg acquisition

A regionally popular, 95-year-old brand of cookies is making its comeback in May thanks to our U.S. Snacks business.

Late last year, Kellogg acquired the trademarks and recipes of the Mother's Cake & Cookie Co., which manufactured and marketed frosted animal crackers, sandwich cookies and wire-cut cookies in the western United States – where the Mother's Cookies brand has a very loyal following.

Production of the cookies had ceased in October when the private equity firm that owned Mother's Cake & Cookie Co. filed for bankruptcy. After acquiring the brand through an auction in federal bankruptcy court, we announced our intent to reintroduce many of the most popular Mother's Cookies varieties back into stores in the West.

"We're thrilled to bring back a classic, beloved brand that calls to mind such strong feelings of nostalgia and happy childhood memories that parents want to pass down to their children," says Doug VanDeVelde, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Innovation, U.S. Snacks, in a press release issued today informing consumers that the cookies are returning to store shelves beginning this week – just in time for Mother's Day.

The Mother's Cookies varieties we're relaunching include favorites such as Circus Animal, Cocadas, and English Tea and Taffy sandwich cookies, as well as Chocolate Chip, Double Fudge, Iced Lemonade, Iced Oatmeal, Macaroons, Oatmeal and Vanilla Crème.
