With a record-breaking eight gold medals in Beijing, Team U.S.A. swimming sensation Michael Phelps has earned his status as a living Olympic legend - and now he's also earned a spot on two of our Kellogg team's legendary cereals.
Expected to hit shelves in mid-September, specially marked packages of our Kellogg's Frosted Flakes and Kellogg's Corn Flakes will feature the 23-year-old gold medalist from Baltimore. They will be available through the end of the year.
"As an official sponsor of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team and a proud sponsor of Phelps, it is only fitting that Kellogg features this world-class athlete on our iconic Corn Flakes and Frosted Flakes cereal boxes," says Marta Cyhan, Vice President, Global Promotions, noting that Kellogg has sponsored the U.S. Olympic Committee since 2000.
"Michael embodies the values behind our Frosted Flakes Earn Your Stripes program," Marta continues. "He knows that winning is not just about the glory that comes with gold medals, but also about good sportsmanship, working hard and being your best."
Phelps made history breaking Mark Spitz's record - who earned seven gold medals in swimming during the 1972 Munich Olympics - when he earned his eighth gold medal in a single Olympics this past weekend.
Marta adds, "Michael Phelps' long road from his hometown of Baltimore, Md., to Beijing, China, is an inspiration to kids in the United States - and across the globe."
Kellogg's Frosted Flakes Earn Your Stripes program encourages youth - primarily kids ages 8-12 - to get physically fit by eating right and staying active. The program encourages kids to overcome challenges and accomplish their goals to be the very best they can be.
Two different images of Phelps during what were some of the most memorable moments of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be printed on the packages. He's the latest in a long line of famous Olympians to be featured on our products. Recent examples include figure skater Scott Hamilton, basketball legend Larry Bird and speed skater Bonnie Blair, among others. |
