"At 77, I have many memories of Kellogg's. I worked as a machine tender at the Memphis plant for nearly 35 years. It was my first (and as it turned out--last) job. I think I earned about $1.10 hr initially, but I thought it was big time!
Other than the camaraderie of the plant people, I remember several specifics which made the job near and dear to my heart.
When pop-tarts were first brought out, my friends and I would place them on a warm spot on the line and devour them on a break. I thought they tasted like homemade pie!
On several occasions, my supervisor allowed me to slip upstairs to the microphone and I serenaded my buddies with some old country song for a few bars. I have always been inordinately shy, and this was a treat. Everybody laughed and I felt their love.
We had a few squabbles along the way, but let anyone attack one of our own, and the rest were lined up to defend.
It may sound like we didn't get much work done, but we were in reality a well-oiled team. The jokes and fun just made it seem less like a job and more like the place we all enjoyed going to.
Thanks for letting me share my memories." |

One favorite memory of working at Keebler was in 1989, doing our annual report to employees. Uncommonly Good Energy, Keebler enters the 90's. I was the Salesman of the year and the Poster Person. This was the passage from one decade to another. A convenient time to reflect upon where we have been, where we are and where we are going.
My [favorite] character was and still is Ernie. He loves parents as much as the kids. Favorites snacks are Chip Deluxe, Town House and Clubs.
Thirty-five years ago the children in my neighborhood called me the "Cookie Man."

"I had the pleasure of working with the man who started our company, Bob Dennem, who was a hands on person and always had time to stop and listen to his employees.
We made Girl Scout cookies and our company was Mothers Cookies at that time. We were a family as well as co workers. I worked there for 24 yrs; we made a lot cookies. My job was in the coating dept - applying chocolate.
There have been many
changes since 1978, but now that I am retired I can say it was the best place I have worked and I miss my friends and working there."

"I started working at a small cookie company in N.J. as a supervisor of maintenance; the company changed hands several times. It became sunshine biscuit, Keebler and eventually Kellogg. After enjoying Kellogg Cornflakes all these years I never thought I would be part of your company. I'm 79, retired and enjoying it. Thank you."
