Kellogg to make food donation in honor of Mark Martin NASCAR milestone

Mark Martin, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Chevrolet, is no stranger to Bristol Motor Speedway. He's turned the corners on the half-mile oval track many times in his nearly 30-year career with NASCAR.

However, Martin's trek to Bristol on Saturday, August 29, will mark a significant milestone for the driver: the race will be his 1,000th NASCAR-sanctioned race start. This weekend's Sprint Cup race will also be the 746th race of Martin's career.

Did you know?

Throughout his career, Martin has earned 94 NASCAR victories in its three series, with 39 Cup, 48 Nationwide and seven Truck victories.

For more information about Martin and the No. 5 team, visit the Kellogg's Racing website.
In honor of Martin's achievement, Kellogg is donating 1,000 pounds of food to the Arkansas Food Bank Network, Inc., which will benefit Martin's hometown of Batesville, Ark. Todd Penegor, President, U.S. Snacks, will also present Martin with an award to commemorate the date, just before Saturday's race.

"Our company is passionate about our brands and driven toward continuous improvement through humility and a hunger to learn," Todd says. "With 1,000 race starts and much success over the years, we see these same qualities in Mark Martin and are proud to have him as the driver of the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST car. We're honored to commemorate this event with a donation to the food bank in Mark's hometown, and we wish him and his team success in Saturday's race."

While Martin joins Richard Petty and Michael Waltrip as the only drivers to achieve 1,000 race starts, he remains humble about the milestone, saying, "I honestly didn't know this milestone was coming until I had a few reporters bring it up lately. Wow. That's a lot of races. I didn't realize that I was even close to that many."

Martin has earned eight poles at Bristol – double the amount of what he has earned at any other active track – posting two wins, 15 top-five finishes and 22 top-10 finishes. His last time at Bristol, in March, Martin earned his second pole of the season, posting the team's first top-10 finish of the season.

Martin and the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST team are currently 12th in the Sprint Cup standings, only 12 points ahead of 13th place. Saturday's race at Bristol will air at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on ESPN.
