Kellogg has one of the best overall ethics programs among the top 1,000 companies that do business with the U.S. government, according to a new ranking of federal contractors' ethical policies.
In fact, our company is included among an elite group of 35 government contractors whose ethics programs are rated as "excellent" or "above standard" by the Ethisphere Institute, an organization devoted to promoting ethical business practices.
"We are very honored to receive this recognition," says Neil Nyberg, vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer. "At Kellogg we understand that in our role as a supplier to the United States government we are the beneficiary of the public's trust - and that's a responsibility we take very seriously."
Neil adds, "Of course, in a much broader sense, everything Kellogg does is deeply rooted in the rich history of integrity and corporate responsibility established by W.K. Kellogg when we founded our company over a century ago."
The "Best Overall Government Contractor Ethics Program" ranking was based on an objective analysis of each company's code of ethics and business conduct, leadership and tone from the top, internal control systems, and ethics training and communication programs. The results are part of a larger review of federal contractors' ethics and compliance programs published in this month's issue of Ethisphere Magazine.
"Oftentimes, government contractors are portrayed in a negative light in the news because of a few bad apples' actions," says Alex Brigham, executive director of the Ethisphere Institute. "In undertaking this exhaustive research and ranking, we have found the opportunity to highlight companies that have taken proactive measures to implement the proper controls, culture and programs to communicate company values and prevent unethical behavior. They should be a shining example to others in the industry."
In May 2007, Ethisphere named Kellogg to its annual list of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" for our strong leadership in ethics and compliance, advancement of industry discourse on social and ethical issues and positive engagement in the communities in which we operate.
A national publication dedicated to illuminating the important correlation between ethics and profit, Ethisphere Magazine's global readership includes corporate board members, chief executives, general counsels, chief ethics and compliance officers, and institutional investors. |
