Everybody loves a good comeback story, whether it's a long-forgotten movie star who makes a triumphant return to the silver screen or a once-great athlete who defies the odds to become a champion once again.
But this might be the first time in history that the comeback of a cookie has generated such excitement.

Our company's announcement this week that Hydrox cookies are returning to grocery stores for a limited time this summer made national news yesterday in the Wall Street Journal and on FOX Business News.
Brad Davidson, president, U.S. Snacks, was interviewed for both stories. As he explained, Hydrox's unprecedented reintroduction - just in time for the cookie's 100th anniversary this year - is the result of a "Bring Back Hydrox" campaign driven by impassioned consumers.
Kellogg had received more than 1,300 telephone inquiries and 1,000 petition signatures since Hydrox disappeared from stores five years ago. Plus, there have been countless online message board postings from devoted fans of the cookies.
"For the generations of fans who grew up on Hydrox cookies, it is more than just a delicious, creamy-filled chocolate sandwich cookie," Brad says in a press release announcing the cookie's return. "We've been touched by how many consumers describe their preference for Hydrox cookies as interwoven with their identity and family history. These Hydrox cookie loyalists can be proud to know they've been heard and have inspired this latest chapter in the story of the ‘little cookie that could.'"
Hydrox was the first cookie of its kind when it was introduced by the Sunshine Biscuit Co. back in 1908. Then in 1912, Nabisco ignited a 90-year-long rivalry when it launched its own crème-filled, chocolate sandwich cookie: the Oreo, which went on to become one of the best-selling cookies of all time.
The rivalry between the two competing brands finally ended in 2003 when Kellogg discontinued manufacturing Hydrox - but, as it turns out, that wasn't the end of the story.
Available nationally beginning in late August, our Limited Edition 100th Anniversary Hydrox cookies will follow the original, beloved Hydrox recipe, though they will contain 0 grams trans fat - consistent with Kellogg's ongoing efforts to remove harmful trans fatty acids from our products.
Additionally, our company plans to thank loyal Hydrox fans with a special contest that kicks off in late June. Consumers will be invited to share their favorite Hydrox cookie stories to win the chance to be among the first to taste the Limited Edition 100th Anniversary Hydrox at a milk-and-cookies celebration in New York City.
More information on the contest will be posted soon at www.Hydroxcookies.com. (Kellogg employees and their immediate family members, of course, are not eligible to participate.) |
