In the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes that struck Haiti on Jan. 12, Kellogg Company, along with our employees and retirees, have generously stepped up to offer support of relief efforts.
As of Jan. 22, nearly 150 U.S. full-time employees and retirees have contributed to the American Red Cross for disaster relief efforts in Haiti. With the company's dollar-for-dollar match, the donations total more than $50,000. This is in addition to the $250,000 grant from Kellogg's Corporate Citizenship Fund.
Prior to the earthquakes, Kellogg was offering humanitarian relief to the impoverished nation of Haiti. In 2009, Kellogg provided more than 300,000 pounds of product to Food For The Poor, a non-profit based in the U.S. The product shipped late in the year, so it was in Haiti when the earthquake hit and available for distribution last week.
Donated food was sourced from both the U.S. and Canada. Product included Special K, Pop-Tarts, Rice Krispies and various crackers.
We are currently identifying additional product in the U.S. for donation, as food will continue to be a priority for those in Haiti.
Canada is also sourcing product to support an industry-wide initiative via Food and Consumer Products of Canada.
In addition, our colleagues in Europe have donated more than $6,000, which the corporate foundation will also be matching.
U.S. employees and retirees are reminded that there is still time for personal donations to the American Red Cross. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
