Dear Retirees,
A year ago, in June, we announced a pair of exciting, industry-leading initiatives designed to further strengthen our company's commitment to meeting the health and nutrition needs of our consumers.
The news that we are making bold changes to how and what we market to children - and that we were adding Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA) nutrition labeling to the front of our cereal packs in the U.S., Canada and Mexico - made headlines and earned praise from consumers, health advocates, government officials and other influential stakeholders.
Of course, our announcement last year was just the first step in what is a continuing journey. In recent months, we have publicly reported on the progress that we've made on that journey thus far. Take, for instance, our Global Nutrition Criteria and the products we market to children. Over the past 12 months, our colleagues in Research, Quality and Technology (RQT) have been incredibly busy developing new products and reformulating many of our existing offerings to meet our science-based criteria. By year's end, the majority of our products marked to children will be aligned with the criteria. And those that don't will no longer be marketed to children under 12 as of January 1, 2009 - true to our word.
More than anything, our progress report is about demonstrating that we are following through on the commitments we made a year ago and that we are continuing our historical legacy to make a positive impact on our consumers' health.
I encourage you to continue to check out Senior K to learn more about what we've accomplished to date. You'll see how we're expanding product choices, practicing responsible marketing, providing helpful nutrition information to consumers and promoting healthy lifestyles around the globe.
As you well know, it is the hard work and dedication of our employees - past and present - who have brought us to where we are today Throughout the years, it is these contributions that have helped Kellogg to continue to demonstrate our leadership in health and nutrition.
Thanks for being part of the Kellogg family.
Sincerely,
David Mackay
President and Chief Executive Officer
