Community giving. Diversity and inclusion. Health and nutrition. Food safety. Responsible marketing. Employee safety and wellness. Environmental management.
It's no secret to us that Kellogg Company has been focused on these and other corporate responsibility initiatives for years. While the company has made good progress in many of these areas, much more remains to be done.
In 2008, we began a process that uses our heritage and culture as a solid foundation on which to build a corporate responsibility strategy organized around four strategic areas: environment, marketplace, community and workplace.
This resulted in the company's first-ever global Corporate Responsibility Report, which will be officially unveiled Tuesday, January 13.
Living the legacy
The release of the Corporate Responsibility Report builds directly on Kellogg's 103-year heritage of corporate citizenship, notes President and CEO David Mackay.
"It is right in line with W.K. Kellogg's vision for the company he founded," David says. "In addition, it's clearly consistent with the K Values that inspire and guide us, especially in terms of taking accountability for our actions and keeping our commitments. So, producing a report that's truly a transparent account of our goals, actions, achievements and areas of opportunity was the right thing to do."
In the 21st century's global marketplace, companies like Kellogg are facing higher expectations than ever before from consumers, investors and the communities in which they operate, among others.
"In an increasingly challenging and resource-constrained world, our stakeholders are just as interested in social responsibility, environmental sustainability and ethics as they are in profitability. In fact, they look at the choices we make in deciding whether to choose us - and they're seeking the same level of transparency and accountability on our corporate responsibility efforts as they expect in our financial reporting," says Celeste Clark, Chief Sustainability Officer. "This report is an opportunity for us to show how we're making responsible choices and have strategies in place to address key issues going forward." |
