Our Augusta Bakery held a blood drive yesterday to support Imperial Sugar, one of Kellogg's largest sugar suppliers, which sustained significant losses due to a refinery explosion.
Located in Augusta, Ga., our U.S. Snacks bakery held the blood drive in the facility's parking lot, where Kellogg team members could donate to assist the employees of Imperial Sugar who are in need of blood transfusions as well as to rebuild local supplies.
The explosion and fire at Imperial Sugar's refinery occurred in Port Wentworth, Ga., which is located near Savannah, Ga., the evening of Feb. 7. Click here for the Imperial Sugar press release.
A number of Imperial Sugar's employees and contractors were injured, and seventeen hospitalized at an area burn center. There were nine fatalities.
The Augusta Bakery's outreach to Imperial Sugar reflects the strength of partnership our business has with our suppliers as well as our commitment to support the communities in which we operate.
